A small explosive eruption ocurred at Cleveland volcano on August 19th, at approximately 6:55 PM (local time), the Alaska Volcano Observatory reports. A low level ash cloud was visible on satellite images. It drifted to the southeast and dispersed over several hours.

Cleveland volcano in the Aleutian Islands (Alaska) had an explosive eruption at 14.05 local time on 19 June, the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported, who raised the alert status to Orange (3 out of 4). Based on pilots' observations, an ash plume rose to about 35,000 ft (10,6 km). As the eruptions blog writes, a possible explanation could be that the eruption was caused by a collapse of the lava dome, but Cleveland's remote location makes it difficult to confirm this. ...
