Vor vielen Millionen Jahren wuchsen an den Berghängen der Insel Lesbos dichte Wälder. Mammutbäume erreichten enorme Höhen. Irgendwann wurden die Vulkane der Insel nach einer langen Pause wieder aktiv. An zahlreichen Stellen gab es explodierende Krater. Einer der größten Vulkane erzeugte heiße Ascheströme, die sich mit enormer Hitze und Geschwindigkeit über die einst grünen Berghänge wälzten. Die Bäume wurden unter Schichten von 20-60 Meter Asche begraben. ...
