Bagana volcano: news and activity updates

Eruptions have intensified at the volcano. Over the past 2 days, several explosions produced ash plumes rising to about 7,000 ft (2.1 km) altitude and drifting 30-45 nautical miles to the W and NW (VAAC Darwin).

Activity at the volcano continues. A volcanic ash plume was observed at 6,000 ft (1.8 km) altitude and extending 15 nautical miles to the S and W.

A stronger eruptive phase has been occurring since last night. Several ash plumes reaching 10,000 ft (3 km) altitude have been observed drifting 45 nautical miles to the WSW (VAAC Darwin).

Darwin VAAC reported that during 12-14 February ash plumes from Bagana rose to an altitude of 1.5 km (5,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted 35-55 km SW and NW.
