Cochiquito is part of a small group of young volcanoes lies north of the town of Buta Ranquil, Argentina, near where the Río Grande and Río Barrancas join to form the Río Colorado.

Volcán Cochiquito volcano is a young alkaline basaltic stratovolcano and is thought to be Holocene. There are 8 flank cones.
Volcán Sillanegra (or Malal) is another young, Holocene pyroclastic cone complex with 2 craters and basaltic aa lava flows east of the Río Grande.
Volcán Ranquil del Sur is a 3rd young small stratovolcano south of the Río Barranca. It contains a 600-m-wide crater and produced andesitic scoria and lava flows.
