Vulkannachrichten: Fuego Volcano (Guatemala)Donnerstag, Mai 23, 2013
Activity has remained stable during the past week. During yesterday, INSIVUMEH recorded 10 weak strombolian-type explosions that generated small ash plumes of up to 600 m height and drifting for 8-10 km before dissipating.
Donnerstag, Mai 16, 2013
Explosive activity remains very weak. During the past 24 hour observation interval, INSIVUMEH only counted 3 small explosions.
Dienstag, Mai 14, 2013
Activity has remained stable and at relatively low levels over the past days. The volcano has few weak to moderate strombolian-type explosions every now and then (5-10 per day), which produce small ash plumes rising up to 5-700 m above the crater.
Montag, Mai 06, 2013
Activity remained at low level, characterized by few (6 during yesterday) strombolian-type explosions that produce gray ash plumes rising 300-500 m above the crater.
Freitag, Mai 03, 2013
Activity has further decreased with very few explosions reported since yesterday, and no activity at the lava flows. ...mehr
Donnerstag, Mai 02, 2013
Activity has decreased - the lava flows stopped being alimented yesterday and the explosive activity has become weaker. Different from previous eruptive phases, this time, it did not culminate in a paroxysmal eruption.
Dienstag, Apr 30, 2013
Lava effusion feeding the two active flows remains abundant and there are now near-constant strombolian explosions from the summit crater, accompanied by locomotive-like degassing sounds. Some of the explosions generate shock waves. Ash reaches about 6-700 m above the crater and drifts 10 km to the S and SW.
Montag, Apr 29, 2013
Effusive activity has increased on the expense of weaker explosive activity. The two lava flows on the SW flank towards the Taniluyà and Ash canyon have reached 900 and 700 m length, respectively, and cause frequent avalanches (visible on the seismograph) that reach the vegetation.
Samstag, Apr 27, 2013
The effusive eruptive activity continues to increase slowly. Two branches of the lava flow advanced to 500 m length towards the Ceniza and 400 m length to the Taniluyá canyon. Rockfalls from the flow fronts produce incandescent avalanches that reach the vegetation line. ...mehr
Activity has been increasing. Continuous stronger tremor today suggests an increase in effusion rate today. In INSIVUMEH's report from yesterday, the new lava flow was 400 m long and produced small avalanches towards the Ash Canyon. The number of explosions rose to 17, producing gray ash plumes rising 600 m above the crater and drifting 8-10 km to the west and SW. They were accompanied by weak rumblings and locomotive-like degassing sounds. Incandescent material was seen rising 100-200 m at night.
Donnerstag, Apr 25, 2013
This morning, a new lava flow emerged from the crater and started to flow down the southern flank towards the Trinidad canyon, reaching a length of 300 meters. Explosions continue and produce ash plumes rising to 4-4.2 km altitude (300-500 m above the crater), generating weak to moderate rumbling avalanches. INSIVUMEH warns that this activity could increase towards a more intense eruptive phase in the coming days, with larger explosions, and possibly pyroclastic flows. ...mehr
Montag, Apr 22, 2013
An increase in strombolian activity has been observed. Explosions eject incandescent material to 100-150 m height and creates avalanches when falling back onto the slopes. ...mehr
Samstag, Apr 20, 2013
Activity has been low, with only few (less than 10) small to moderate explosions observed during most days.
Sonntag, Apr 14, 2013
Activity has remained relatively low. Only few explosions were observed during yesterday, generating fine ash plumes rising up to about 800 m.
Mittwoch, Apr 10, 2013
Activity has remained relatively low with only smaller strombolian explosions. At night, glowing bombs can be seen ejected to about 100 m above the crater.
Montag, Apr 08, 2013
Activity remains unchanged. Infrequent weak to moderate strombolian explosions (about 5-10 per day) generate ash plumes up to 1 km above the crater, causing small avalanches and light ash fall in nearby areas.
Samstag, Apr 06, 2013
Activity remains low, with only few strombolian explosions reported.
Donnerstag, Apr 04, 2013
Activity has been relatively calm today, with only 5 explosions of small to moderate size (ash plumes 6-900 m) reported by INSIVUMEH. ...mehr [alles lesen]
Dienstag, Apr 02, 2013
Explosive activity is on the increase again. During 31 Mar - yesterday, the observatory reported 12 small to moderate explosions with ash plumes rising up to 1100 m above the crater, accompanied by shock waves felt in up to 15 km and plenty of incandescent bombs ejected to all over the summit cone.
Sonntag, Mär 31, 2013
Activity has remained stable, with occasional strombolian explosions ejecting glowing lava bombs to about 100 m height above the crater. Ash plumes rose 600-800 m and drifted about 10 km into southerly directions. ...mehr
Donnerstag, Mär 28, 2013
An increase in explosive activity is apparent from the volcano observatory's daily reports. For the past 24 hours between yesterday and today, 13 explosions (7 weak and 6 moderate in size) were reported with ash plume heights up to 1200 m above the crater. ...mehr
Mittwoch, Mär 27, 2013
Activity remains at weak levels, with 9 small to moderate explosions generating ash plumes rising up to 800 m above the crater and drifting W and SW where fine ash fall occurred.
Dienstag, Mär 26, 2013
Activity is characterized by occasional weak to moderate strombolian explosions producing ash plumes rising 600-1000 m above the crater. Fine ash fall has been recorded in Panimaché I y II, Morelia and Santa Sofía.
Freitag, Mär 22, 2013
The volcano has been considerably calmer today, with only 5 mostly weak explosions detected, which produced ash plumes rising 400-800 m above the craters. The (mostly now cooling) lava flow erupted two days ago still produces frequent rock falls and small avalanches.
Donnerstag, Mär 21, 2013
Activity has calmed down a bit again. INSIVUMEH reported 18 explosions (10 weak and 8 moderate) with ash plumes reaching 600-1200 m above the crater and drifting S and SE. ...mehr

![]() Seismic signal from Fuego during the start of the increased activity yesterday (FG3 station, INSIVUMEH) Montag, Mär 18, 2013
The volcano has been calmer today, with only 10 mostly weak strombolian explosions registered, and maximum ash plume heights of 600 m. Incandescent tephra was seen ejected to 100 m above the crater and rolling down towards the Ceniza canyon. Strong degassing with turbine-like noises lasting up to 3 minutes were heard.
Sonntag, Mär 17, 2013
Compared to the previous days, activity has a bit decreased. INSIVUMEH reports few weak to moderate explosions, and small glowing avalanches from the crater towards the Ceniza drainage visible at night. A new lava flow is predicted to re-appear in the coming days. ...mehr

The rhythm of explosions remains similar. A total of 15 weak to moderate events with ash plumes rising 400-900 m were mentioned in INSIVUMEH's latest report for the period 14-15 March.
Donnerstag, Mär 14, 2013
An increase in explosions has been observed recently. INSIVUMEH reported 16 events, out of which 9 were characterized as "moderate" with shock waves that rattled windows and roofs, and incandescent tephra reaching 100-150 m height. ...mehr
