It contains andesitic lava domes and it is not known if the volcano is still to be considered active or not, i.e. if there have been eruptions in the past 10,000 years. Its name Kogaja-jima means "Little Gaja Island", as it is ESE of the larger Gaja-jima stratovolcano. There is weak fumarolic activity in locations at the coastal cliffs. |
