Pisgah crater is the main feature, a prominent 100 m high cinder cone north of Lavic Lake surrounded by an 80 km2 basalt lava flow field. Beschreibung:Vents near Pisgah crater were the source of mostly pahoehoe lava flows that traveled 8 km SE to Lavic Lake, and in a narrow lobe as far as 18 km west of the vent. Paleomagnetic, argon-argon, and cosmogenic helium dated locate it at about 25,000 years before present. Another very youthful looking, but undated cinder cone and lava field of the Lavic Lake volcanic field is located in the Sunshine Peak area of the Lava Beds Mountains, south of the better known Pisgah Crater.--- Source: GVP Lavic Lake information Lavic Lake Fotos: |
