Cereme (or Ciremai) volcano close to the north coast of Java is a symmetric stratovolcano and among the most beautiful and largest of Java's active volcanoes. It contains a deep twin crater elongated in E-W direction. Cereme's historic eruptions were infrequent, and consited mainly in mild explosive activity and mud flows from the summit crater.

Cereme volcano was constructed on top of the northern rim of the older 4.5 x 5 km Geger Halang caldera, believed to be the result of a large Plinian eruption.
