Maderas is still active, but the latest activity dates back more than 3000 years ago and there are no confirmed eruptions in historical time. Beschreibung:Volcán Maderas is cut by numerous faults and grabens, the largest of which is a NW-SE-oriented graben that cuts the summit and has at least 140 m of vertical displacement. The summit crater is located at the western side of the central graben.The SW side of the volcano has been affected by large-scale slumping. There are many flank cones on the lower NE flank down to Lake Nicaragua. 1996 lahar and fatalities
A mud flow in September 1996 killed 6 persons in a village on the east flank, but there was no eruption at the volcano. The lahar was caused by heavy rainfall. |
