Beschreibung:The steep sided glacier-covered summit contains a 200-300 m deep crater and consists of lava domes and thick block-lava flows on the northern and eastern flanks.The last major eruption, a Plinian type eruption, occurred 3600 years ago, and smaller eruptions occurred in the past centuries. The andesitic-dacitic younger Tolima volcano formed during the past 40,000 years, rising above and largely filling a 3-km-wide older caldera. |
