Beschreibung:Ngauruhoe is the youngest and most active cone of the large Tongariro volcanic complex, and forms today its highest peak. Ngauruhoe started to grow about 2500 years ago and has been frequently active in historic times.1975 eruption of Ngauruhoe
The eruption in February 1975 was the strongest since the lava flows from 1975. It produced violent explosions with ash plumes up to 11k m height and pyroclastic flows. ...mehr 2006 earthquake swarm
In June 2006, earthquakes under the volcano increased in number to about 50 per day and were located only 1 km beneath the summit. Ngauruhoe was raised to alert level 1, because the earthakes likely indicated an intrusion of new magma at shallow depth, which could have resulted in a possible eruption in the near future. However, no eruption followed and seismicity returned to its normal level. |
