JMA reported that during 11-15 June large explosive eruptions from Sakura-jima's Showa Crater occurred 5 times and ejected tephra as far as 800 m from the crater. A small eruption from Minami-dake Crater occurred on 13 June. Based on information from JMA, the Tokyo VAAC reported that during 13-15 and 17-19 June explosions produced plumes that rose to altitudes of 1.8-3.4 km (6,000-11,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted multiple directions. A pilot observed an ash plume on 19 June that rose to an altitude of 3.4 (11,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted E.

During 1-4 June 7 explosions from Sakura-jima's Showa Crater ejected ballistics 800-1,300 m from the crater. During 30 May-5 June explosions produced plumes that rose to altitudes of 1.2-3 km (4,000-10,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted SW, W, and NW. Pilots observed ash plumes during 3-4 June that rose to altitudes of 2.7-3.4 (9,000-11,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted W.
