Tokyo VAAC berichtete, dass während der 25-27 und 29-30 Januar Explosionen von Sakura-Jima Federn produziert, die stieg auf Höhen von 1,5-3 km (5.000-10.000 ft) ü.d.m. und trieb e und SE. Am 29. The Tokyo VAAC reported that during 11-17 January explosions from Sakura-jima produced plumes that rose to altitudes of 1.2-2.4 km (4,000-8,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted NE, E, and SE. On 14 January a pilot observed an ash plume that rose to an altitude of 2.4 km (8,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted S.

Based on information from JMA, the Tokyo VAAC reported that during 4-10 January explosions from Sakura-jima produced plumes that rose to altitudes of 1.5-2.7 km (5,000-9,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted NE, E, SE, and S. On 7 January an ash plume rose to an altitude 2.7 km (9,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted SE, then later dissipated.

During 28 February-1 March explosions were reported from Showa Crater ejecting bombs that landed as far away as 1.3 km. Also deformation was detected and further eruptions on 3 March.
