A swarm of earthquakes can be recognized that has been going on at shallow depths a few km north of the island during the past days. Many quakes have been recorded at magnitudes above 2.

Beschreibung:To-shima volcano is basaltic-to-basaltic andesite in composition and lies about 20 km west of the main volcanic front. The island has steep cliffs up to 300 m high on 3 sides. On the more gently sloping northern side, the small village of To-shima is located. The latest known eruption of To-shima volcano was betwenn about 9000 and 4000 years ago and produced a lava flow from the Kajiana crater. |
