After last week's intense series of larger ash eruptions, such as on 10 May, Tunguarahua seems to be quieting down and has not registered any major explosions since May 11.

IG reported steam and ash-and-steam plumes from Tungurahua that rose to altitudes of 5.8-8 km (19,000-26,200 ft) a.s.l. during 27 February - 1 March. Ash plumes drifted NW, W, SW, and SE, ashfall was reported in areas to the SW on 27 February. Tungurahua volcano's activity has been increasing over the past days. The Ecuadorian Insititute of Geophysics (IG) reports an increase in the frequency and size of ash explosions. IG interprets the present style of activity as related to constant degassing in an open-conduit system filled with vicsous magma. Sronger explosions alternate with near-constant emissions of gas and ash. ...

Tungurahua volcano continues its explosive eruptions producing ash plumes rising to altitudes of 6-9 km (19,700-30,000 ft) a.s.l. Ash ashfall was reported from multiple areas downwind, mainly to the W and SW. Loud roars and "cannon-shot" like detonations are heard in several areas near the volcano. IG reported the passing of a lahar on the SW flank that lasted about 30 minutes on 10 November. ...
