This sample itinerary corresponds to the second half of the Volcanoes in the South Sea and is only an indication for the planned program. Changes due to unexpected events, volcanic activity, weather etc. are possible. Customized versions can be offered on request.

Day 1: Arrival on Vanuatu (Port Vila, Efate Island)

You are picked up and welcomed at the airport and trasferred to a beautiful beach hotel in Port Vila, where the group meets. The afternoon is free to relax, and perhaps to stock up snacks at the supermarkets in Port Vila (there are Western choices like musli bars, etc.).
The evening is spent at the idyllic waterfront in a sea-side restaurant and bar, where we enjoy dinner with the refreshing breeze of the trade winds.

Day 2: Flight to Tanna - Transfer to Yasur volcano

In the morning, we fly to Tanna island. A 4WD pick-up brings us accross the island to a simple, but charming guesthouse directly at the feet of Mt. Yasur volcano. After lunch, we drive and hike to Yasur volcano to enjoy its spectacular volcanic activity from close, as long as we wish...

Day 3: Eruption watching at YASUR volcano

Today is fully dedicated to observe Yasur's spectacular firewors during day and night. In the company of your experienced guide expert (volcanologist on request) you can discover Yasur's fascinating geology and volcanic activity from close: magnificent incandescent jets, impressive sounds and fire.

Day 4: Relaxing day at the jungle oasis & the Yasur volcano

This will be a relaxing day at the beautiful jungle oasis, where we stay in individual bungalows in lush tropical garden setting. There is no program during the day.
Electricity is available to download/upload images and to work on computer – possibility to give your clothes for washing. Opportunity to see the breathtaking Banjan trees and to stroll through the bush. Option to go horse riding over the ash planes of Yasur volcano.
In the afternoon, we climb Yasur volcano on 4x4 vehicles and go the rest on foot (10 min. hike up to the top!). There are breathtaking fireworks from Yasur volcano (Strombolian activity) to observe. At night, we return down to the bungalows to have dinner.

Day 5: Day-trip to Port Resolution beach & Yasur volcano

After breakfast at the Jungle Oasis we take a side-trip to Port resolution to swim and relax on a gorgeous white sand beach and enjoy a delicious lunch prepared from a skillful cook at the beach...
We return to Yasur volcano for a second ascent to Yasur Volcano in the afternoon. If the situation permits, we will hike around the crater (1 hour) and descent onto the ash plane in the dark. Hike back to Jungle Oasis (30min), dinner.

Day 6: Hike to the village of John Frum & local village celebration

This day needs to be a Friday. We hike to the traditional "village of John Frum" (1,5 hours) - a tribe which prays to the Americans as a god, and who can talk to the volcano.
Near the village, we can swim in hot volcanic springs. At sundown, the men are allowed to take part in a traditional Kava ceremony, a special plant root the tribal elders use to be able to talk to the spirits. The women will stay with the local women behind and prepare the most special of local meals: a pig.
A night, there is dance and singing with the glow of Yasur volcano behind the village. The villagers honor their god and dance all night long. We have the option to overnight in the village, or otherwise to hike back across the ash plane to the bungalows of the Jungle Oasis. Lunch and Dinner in the village.

Day 7: Visit of Yakel, a traditional village

Visit of Yakel, a custom village. We spend the day and night in this village, where time stands still: until today, the village chief refuses all modern-day materials. You will be surprised to experience this exotic world.

Day 8: Flight Tanna - Port Vila, free afternoon

We bid farewell to Tanna island, Yasur volcano and many new friends on the island... Then, the local interisland airline will fly us back to Port Vila. We return to the hotel from the first day and have the afternoon free. In the evening, we meet again for a delicious farewell dinner at the ocen front in the evening.

Note:
If you're interested only in a short excursion to see Yasur volcano, this is an example of an overnight tour that leaves you almost a whole day and night to watch Yasur erupt!
Of course, additional days on Tanna can be added.
