Light magnitude 4.4 earthquake - 19km NNE of Shawville, Ontario, Canada

A small earthquake occurred this morning in Ontario, Canada, where it was widely felt, but did not cause significant damage. We received hundreds of "I-felt-it" reports (below) that give an impression how the quake was experienced.
Initial calculations placed the event at magnitude 5, but was later shown to be only a magnitude 4.4. Earthquakes are rare in this region - there are only a few of this magnitude per decade, statistically), and due to the shallow depth (only about 10 km), the attention such an event gets in this part of the world is great.

Still felt very uneasy this morning as well. I was sitting at my desk at approximately 9:30 a.m. this morning, Friday May 17/13 and the building beneath my feet shook and trembled/rumbled like crazy. The monitor to my computer was shaking on my desk like crazy. I immediately went across the hall to another office and asked if they had felt the building shake. Two girls said yes they did. Hope this was helpful. (via EMSC)
