The Saronic Gulf & Methana
The Saronic Gulf is located close to Athens between Attica and the Peloponnese peninsula. It is one of the most significant areas for European culture: it was right here in Ancient history that the dramatic battle between the Greeks and Persians was faught, ending with victory for the Greek and enabling them to continue to develop their culture that is at the very root of the whole Western civilisation. The Saronic Gulf is also one of the most beautiful areas in Greece. Its volcanic centers (Poros island, Methana peninsula and Aegina island) are at the north-western end of the active Hellenic Volcanic Arc.
On this tour you have the great ability to discover the Methana volcanic peninsula and the neighbour areas.
The volcanic peninsula of
Methana is located aprox. 45 km SW of Athens and Piraeus. It is a part of the E Peloponnese peninsula and one of the most impressing landscapes. Most part of Methana is composed by at least 32 volcanic domes, and it offers some truely spectacular geologic features to be visited.
Methana is very green and there are some old forests, where you can find a number of rare animals and plants such as orchids.
Tobias Schorr, your guide on Methana, is
THE expert here: he has been living on Methana for about 10 years and knows the area as his pockets.
