Karangetang is active again, as the GVP/USGS editors report citing local newspaper sources. Batur might be getting active. According to news articles, a pyroclastic flow and a lahar occurred on 4 November. Residents saw active lava flows the next day. On 11 November, incandescent material was ejected
5 m into the air.

Batur might be getting active. As the Indonesian Volcanological Survey reports, increased seismicity from Batur has been observed from September to 7 November and a significant increase in the number of volcanic earthquakes on 8 November. The Alert Level was raised to 2 (on a scale
of 1-4).

explosive activity at Anak Krakatau has resumed over the past weeks. Strong vulcanian-type eruptions from the growing lava dome in the new crater occur at intervals of 90-360 minutes as Yohannes one of our correspondants reports from a recent visit. Blocks are being thrown over the whole of the southern part of the island, including the forest and often reach the water as well. Small pyroclastic flows sometimes develop on the slope of the summit cone. The island must be regarded as an extremely dangerous place to be at the moment. Whoever visits the island should be aware of the risk of a sudden violent explosion, especially because there is little warning before an explosion and there are long intervals of quiet in between.

It wasreported that on 8 August an ash plume from Slamet rose 90 m above the summit.

On 6-7 and 10 August ash plumes from Dukono rose to altitudes of 2.4-3 km.

On 4-7 and 11 August ash plumes from Batu Tara rose to altitudes of 1.5-2.1 km.

It is reported that white and gray plumes from Ibu rose to 300-400 m altitude. There are more frequent earthquakes, that indicate an increasing activity. There were also lava flows and explosions at the summit. There was also Strombolian activity. The Alert Level was increased to 3. The lava dome is growing and is now visible from Duono village.

The activity at Anak Krakatau has been quieting down to a few small explosions and the growth of a new lava dome in the new crater has slowed.

After a 36 hrs pause in activity between the evening of 30 June and the morning of 2 July, Anak Krakatau started again with powerful vulcanian explosions. The largest of these explosions were preceded by an inflation and shaking of the active cone or lava dome, triggering rock-slides from its flanks, until the plug gave way in giant explosions ejecting a rapdly expanding mass of red-hot lava, solid rocks, and large amounts of ash, forming plumes of up to 2 km heights. Most of these explosions ejected many blocks into the sea and the forest of Anak Krakatau, and on one location, our boat at around 500m distance from the shore, had to make a quick escape from falling blocks, some of which nevertheless fell beyond the boat, but fortunately did not hit...

The activity of Anak Krakatau continues with no sign of weakening. As observed during a recent expedition from 4-8 June, strong strombolian activity from the new vent between the old summit vent and the 2007 vent on the S side of the summit cone has filled the collapse crater from 2007 and throws incandescent blocks and bombs to up to 500-700 m above the vent and reaching severl hundreds meters distance. At times, this activity is similar to small lava fountains and at other times, eruptions are more vulcanian-type, rich in ash, producing plumes up to 1 km high. The latter are often accompanied by loud blasts that can be heared many kilometers away and give impressive echoes on the walls of the surrounding caldera. The activity of Anak Krakatau is increasing. Direct observations of the crater in late April revealed strong strombolian activity from a vent inside the crater of the 2007-2008 eruption building up a new scoria cone inside this crater. We are planning to revisit the volcano in the first week of June for more observations.

A new eruption at Slamet volcano started around 24 April, 2009, last week. Observers report strombolian explosions and ash clouds rising several hundreds of meters from the summit crater.
Slamet is one of Indonesia's highest and most active volcanoes.

Our tour guide Doni reports strong Strombolian eruptions at Mt.Karang etang volcano. The cone is covered by hot lapilli and ash plumes can be seen. Strombolian eruptions can be seen every 10 - 15 minute. Also Volcanian eruptions.

A pilot reported a lava flow on Barren island on 17 November and also a ash plume was seen.

The Darwin VAAC reported that a ash plume from Semeru that rose to an altitude of 4.3 km and drifted WSW on 22 October.
