7-days itinerary

Day 1: Milazzo - Salina

The prominent twin volcanoes of Salina island
After embarking at noon in the port of Milazzo, we sail to the verdant Island of Salina, formed by two large volcanoes that gave the island her former name "Didyme" - the "Twins". While we sail along the coasts of this lush and green island, we learn about its violent volcanic history written in the colored rocks exposed at the sea cliffs, not accessible other than by boat. In the evening, we visit a 5 star resort to taste the famous local sweet wine "Malvasia" and relax over dinner.
Acc.: : Luxurious queen-sized bed cabins, with air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. (D)

Day 2: Salina - Lipari

After breakfast on board, we climb to the top of the island along an ancient hiking trail. From the peak of Salina, the crater of 'Monte Fossa' volcano, we will enjoy a magnificiant view over the whole of the archipelago, and on a clear day, one can even see Mt. Etna on the mainland of Sicily.
Later in the afternoon we sail to Lipari, the largest of the Eolian islands. We have time to explore its Medieval center of narrow alleys towered by the castle, and visit the local local pumice and obsidian deposits, that played an important role in the Stone and Bronze Age of the Mediterranean. In the evening we'll enjoy our dinner in the most famous restaurant in the islands, the spectacular 'Da Fillippino', located near the walls of the Ancient Castle. You'll know why it is so famous...!

Day 3: Lipari - Panarea

After breakfast, we visit the archaeological museum, which contains the entire history of the archipelago. In the late morning we sail to charming Panarea island. Along the way, we stop to swim/snorkel at the numerous underwater fumeroles - sulphurous bubbles that have been active for thousands of years, and vivid evidence that the mostly submerged volcano of Panarea is still alive. We anchor overnight in the beautiful bay 'Sotto Castello' underneath the pre-historic village.

Day 4: Panarea - Stromboli

Strombolian eruption seen from Stromboli's summit
Today, we sail to Stromboli island. In the morning, we have the opportunity to explore the perimeter of this stunning volcanic island by boat, sailing past the 'Sciara del Fuoco' and the isolated village of Ginostra, which can only be reached by boat.
In the late afternoon, equipped with sandwiches for the evening, we prepare for the 3-4 hours climb to the summit craters. At around sunset, we arrive on a natural viewpoint at 918m, located directly above the active craters. From here, one can observe the several active craters' eruptions from very close range,- with a good portion of caution. Many people agree that this is one of the most awe-inspiring spectacles of nature they have seen in their lives,- be warned: this is where you might become addicted to volcanoes… After enjoying the fireworks for some time, we descend on a different route that brings us quickly down a steep sand slope directly to the village of Stromboli, in probably less than an hour.
---
Note:
In case access to Stromboli's summit is prohibited by authorities, e.g. during times of particularly high levels of activity, the excursion will instead go to a viewpoint above the Sciara del Fuoco at 400m.

Day 5: Stromboli - Panarea

Today, we sail back to stylish Panarea. Our day is spent exploring the cliff-top trails of this old volcano, and/or swimming / snorkeling / diving, or simply relaxing on board or in the pictureque village with its stylish boutiques. In the late afternoon, we stop for an aperitivo at the 5 star Raya Hotel where the view across to Stromboli is spectacular. While we can admire the frequent eruptions. we enjoy a wonderful Eolian meal ashore.

Here, we climb up the active crater 'Gran Cratere', 386 metres high, a fascinating experience among the steaming sulphur deposits. After descending from our climb, we stop to bathe in the natural volcanic mud pools, and rinse off with a plunge in the adjacent bubbling salt waters. The rest of the day is spent exploring other parts of this peculiar island, where the ground literally breaths. The evening is spent anchored off one of the island's exotic black sand beaches.
