Piton de la Fournaise (L'île de La Réunion): Nouvelle éruption de courte durée 9-10 Déc 2010
Le volcan du Piton de la Fournaise de l'île de La Réunion est entré en éruption pour la 3ème fois. L'éruption a commencée hier le 9 décembre à 22h42, heure locale après deux crises sismiques. A new eruption began on Piton de la Fournaise volcano last evening. Lava fountains and flows are emitted from vents along a new fissure inside the Enclos.

Piton de la Fournaise (La Réunion Island), eruption warning
Unrest at Piton de la Fournaise continues and the volcano observatory has raised alert to level 1 (eruption in near or immediate future probable). Deformation at the summit and seismic activity indicate ascent of fresh magma beneath Dolomieu crater.

Piton de la Fournaise volcano greets the new year with its first eruption in 2010 on 2 January. A fissure vent inside the Dolomieu summit crater erupted lava fountains and a lava flow contained inside the crater, deepened by the large eruption in 2008. The eruption followed a gradual increase inseismic activity since Dec 28. The last, very short-lived eruption happened just about 3 weeks ago, and it seems likely that Piton de la Fournaise has entered a period of frequent but short eruptions, fed by dikes in its highly fractured summit zone, forming of a relatively permeable central plumbing system.
