A small group from VolcanoDiscovery, local mountain guides and partners stayed near and on Lengai volcano during 17-21 January. During this period, Lengai continued to erupt ash to several 100 meters above the new ash cone during phases lasting several hours alternating with periods of quiet when only a weak plume of very fine gray ash and gas was issuing out of the new ash cone. ...plus

Popocatepetl greeted the new year with one of its more powerful explosions. The ash plume from the eruption reached about 8 km height, which makes it one of the biggest during its recent period of activity started in 1994, which has been characterized by more or less frequent, isolated ash explosions of small to moderate size.

Tungurahua volcano's activity has been increasing over the past days. The Ecuadorian Insititute of Geophysics (IG) reports an increase in the frequency and size of ash explosions. IG interprets the present style of activity as related to constant degassing in an open-conduit system filled with vicsous magma. Sronger explosions alternate with near-constant emissions of gas and ash. ...plus

À 7: 10 le 6 janvier 2008 un profond tremblement de terre de magnitude 6,5 sur l'échelle de Richter frappe la région du Sud du Péloponnèse. Il n'y a cependant aucuns dégâts actuellement déclarés. Il est peut être relié au système de l’arc de la mer Égée.

Llaima volcano started to erupt again with strong lava fountains from its summit crater on Tuesday 1st of January 2008. Press reports the evacuation of 300 inhabitants of nearby villages and 150 tourists.
