Volcan Pacaya (Guatemala) actualités:

jeudi, mars 29, 2012

Since July 2010, no eruptive activity has been observed at Pacaya volcano in Guatemala. INSIVUMEH reports that only degassing is taking place from the summit crater (Mackeney). [lire toutes]

After the spectacular eruption a week ago, Pacaya seems to calm down to normal levels. A modest lava flow on the SE flank is still active and weak strombolian activity occurs from the summit. ...plus [lire toutes]

Following the violent eruption on 28 May, a large 90-m-wide lava flow was emitted on 29 May that traveled SSE at an estimated rate of 100 m per hour and burned three houses on the Pacaya Grande ranch. The lava was within 450 m of some other properties including El Chupadero, located 2-2.5 km S of the crater, and disrupted an access road from El Caracol (3 km SW) and Los Pocitos (5.5 km S). ...plus [lire toutes]

On the evening of 27 May, Pacaya volcano entered a phase of violent lava fountaining reaching an height of about 1 km, and an ash plume reaching about 3-4 km elevation drifting north-west towards the capital.

24 January: White and blue fumarolic plumes were drifting from Pacaya's MacKenney cone to S and SW. Four lava flows traveled about 100 m to the W. The Alert Level was lowered to Green. [lire toutes]

Mild strombolian activity and the effusion of two small lava flows continue at Pacaya volcano. New small lava flows ca. 150 and 300 m long are present on the upper NE flank, travelling NE and N towards Los Llanos y Cerro Chino.

INSIVUMEH reported that on 31 May, and 1 and 5 June, lava from the NE flank of Pacaya's Mac Kenney Cone continued to flow and pooled between the base of the volcano and the plateau. Gas plumes from the summit drifted N and SW and rose to altitudes of 2.8 km (9,200 ft) a.s.l. on 5 June. Small pyroclastic explosions from the N part of Mac Kenney Cone were occasionally observed.

INSIVUMEH reported that on 9 and 12 March, fumurolic activity from Pacaya's MacKenney Cone produced plumes that rose to 3 km (9,800 ft) a.s.l. and drifted S and SW. Incandescence was reflected in the plumes on 9 March. A lava flow from a crater on the NE flank was visible on 12 and 13 March to distances of 300 m.

Pacaya volcano remains active producing a lava flow that travels, partly in a 0.5-1.5 m wide tube, about 500 m down the NNE flank of the summit cone. White steam and gas plumes are rising about 300 m ober the summit.

Between 16-18 June, strombolian activity had been more vigorous, sending incandescent blocks to up to 150 m height and destroying parts of the intra-crater cones around the vents.
On June 20, two lava flows descended yesterday from the central crater and have reached 150 and 200 m length. Small strombolian explosions continue from the crater. [lire toutes]

The two lava flows from the central crater cone to the SW and W are still active, with fronts of about 200 and 300 m width near the saddle of Cerro Chino. Weak strombolian activity continues to be present at the summit crater.

Strombolian explosions have paused since yesterday, while small quantities of white steam are still being emitted. Two lava flows, about 2-300 m long, are still active and flowing down in parallel channels at the WSW base of the intra-crater cone. Blocks detach from the flow front and arrive at the saddle between Cerro Chino and Pacaya.
