During 5-11 August it was reported that lava flowed SE from underneath Kilauea's Thanksgiving Eve Breakout and rootless shield complex through a lava tube system, reaching the Waikupanaha ocean entry. The vent in Halema'uma'u crater was active and produced a white steam plume. For the first time since a long time, on 10 August, incandescence from the vent was seen.

It was reported that during 7-13 January lava flowed through a tube system from underneath Kilauea's Thanksgiving Eve Breakout and reached the Waikupanaha ocean entry. It was reported that during 12-18 November lava flowed SE through a tube system from underneath Kilauea's Thanksgiving Eve Breakout (TEB). It was reaching the Waikupanaha ocean entry. Incandescence and active surface flows were seen at the base of the pali fault. Several earthquakes were located beneath the south of the caldera and along the S-flank fault. Beneath Halema'uma'u crater earthquakes ranged from 20 to 40, but could not be located. The vent in Halema'uma'u crater continued to produce a white plume and drifted mainly SW depositing small amounts of tephra. Night-time incandescence was seen at the base of a plume. Sounds resembling distant surf and rockfalls were reported in the vicinity of the crater. The sulfur dioxide emission rate was 800-1200 t per day on 14 and 17 November.

On 22-28 October lava flowded through a tube system at Kilauea´s Thanksgiving Eve Breakaout and was reaching the Waikupanaha ocean entry. On October 23 a plume was observed near the ocean entry. Acid rain caused a closure of the area for public also on 25 October.
