It was reported that on 24 May a series of incandescent flows were flowing the W flank, towards the lake, reaching a forest. An ash plume was drifting and the N. Arenal National Park was closed briefly because to the activity. [lire toutes]

Arenal volcano in Costa Rica had a stronger explosive and/or effusive eruption around 1pm on 25 June. According to various news sources, explosions produced 8 ash avalances (or lava flows) and promted the evacuation of parts of the Arenal National Park. Although almost constantly active during the past decades, the last major eruption of Arenal was in 1968 when 89 people got killed. [lire toutes]

Arenal volcano continues to be mildly active. Over the past weeks, activity at crater C consisted of gas emissions, sporadic Strombolian eruptions, lava flows traveling down the SW and S flanks, and occasional avalanches from lava-flow fronts. Blocks from the lava-flow fronts periodically reached vegetation and started small fires. Acid rain and small amounts of ejected pyroclastic material affected the NE and SE flanks. Eruptions produced ash plumes that rose about 2.2 km (7,100 ft) a.s.l. Pyroclastic cones on the NE and SW flanks continued to grow. Blocks from the lava-flow fronts traveled N, NE, and NW, periodically reaching vegetation where they started small fires. Volcanic activity was at relatively low levels, however, with few eruptions occurring and a small amount of pyroclastic material ejected.

Volcanic activity was at low levels, with few eruptions occurring and a small amount of pyroclastic material ejected. Eruptions produced ash plumes that rose ~500 m above the crater (or 7,100 ft a.s.l.). Ash and acid rain fell on the NE and SE flanks. Small avalanches of volcanic material traveled down several ravines. There was only fumarolic activity at Crater D.

On 10 May around 1000, a pyroclastic flow traveled down Arenal's N flank. An ash-and-gas cloud was produced that drifted SW.

OVSICORI reported that on 2 April around 10:00 local time a small pyroclastic flow traveled down Arenal's W flank.

Arenal volcano is getting more active again. After growing lava flows on the volcano's southwestern flank during the previous months, moderate explosive activity started on 2 November at 14h54 local time. A pyroclastic flow was generated at 15h02 lasting for about 10 minutes and travelling down the volcano's western flank. An associated ash plume drifted southeast.
The pyroclastic flow occurred in an area currently closed to visitors.
