No more ash explosions have been reported recently from Sinabung volcano. The crater remains active with strong degassing, creating a small steam plume.

At least one powerful explosion, probably the strongest so far, occured today at Sinabung volcano on Sumatra. The ash plume reached 25,000 ft elevation (ca. 8km) and the type of eruption can probably be best qualified as vulcanian, similar to Krakatau's activity in 2009. According to news articles, heavy ash fall prevented more than 23,000 people from returning to their homes.

After three days of calmness, another strong ash explosion of Sinabung volcano happened around 04:45 early morning local time on Fri 3 Sep. According to news reports, the explosion was heard and felt up to 8 km away from the volcano and while the size of the eruption is dificult to asses, it seems to have been the biggest explosion so far. ...plus

No further eruptions seem to have occured on Sinabung after the eruptions of 29-30 August. Many of the ca. 12,000 evacuated people are returning to their homes. Indonesian scientists warn that the eruption might very well not be over yet, as tremor continues at the volcano, suggesting that magma is still rising within the conduit.
