Reported eruptions in 1930 and 1937 could not be verified by independent sources. There are many sulfur mines in the saddle between Tacora and Chupiquiña, and hot springs are located on the eastern side of Tacora. Introduction:Tacora volcano is built on top of the Arica Altiplano, which is an ignimbrite platform at ca. 4200 m elevation. The volcano has glaciers down to 5500 m elevation. An explosion crater 300 m below the summit on NW flank. |
