Explosions continued yesterday and today with an increasing trend. One today lasted 8 minutes and produced an ash plume several hundred meters high, which caused some panic among people near the crater.
The current activity could be the start of more vigorous eruptions if magma has begun to rise towards the surface. 1500 people, mostly vendors and tourists were evacuated from the crater. [moins]

The decision was based on an increase in tremor and the discovery of fine ash deposits on tourist facilities located at the edge of Kawah Ratu. It is recommended to prohibit access to Kawah Ratu, the historically active crater, and a major local tourist attraction. [moins]

During the second half of August, there had been increased seismic activity and elevated gas emissions. During September, seismicity gradually decreased and no more tremor appeared since 17 Sep.
Measurements made at fumaroles showed only modest changes. This led to the decision yesterday to reduce the level of activity, but the Volcnological Survey of Indonesia (VSI) underlines that the H2S and SO2 emissions are still relatively high and could pose a safety hazard when there is no wind and recommends not to approach the vents. Vendors and visitors should not go up to the crater at the moment, the head of the West Java Disaster Mitigation Agency, Sigit Udjwalaprana, was quoted.
The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Agency had recently raised the status of Mt. Tangkuban Parahu from normal-active, or level 1, to alert, or level 2, on Aug. 23. [moins]

Between 1 July and 23 Aug, 264 volcanic earthquakes were recorded, which is almost double to values measured during similar periods of time at the beginning of the year. In addition, pulses of volcanic tremor could be recognized. [moins]

Local and foreign tourists are asked to stay away from the crater of Mt. Tangkuban Perahu.
