There are several volcanoes that have erupted large fluuid lava flows in the area, similar to Hawaiian volcanoes. Introduction:Bamaoqiongzong volcano covers an area of 300 sq km and contains a perfectly preserved edifice NE of the summit and a lava flow that overlies Quaternary lake deposits. The Bamaoqiongzong area contains peralkaline phonolitic and foiditic rocks. Yongbohu contains 5 dacitic, trachyandesitic and andesitic vents. Qiangbaqian covers a broad area along the southern border of the Kunlun mountain range. Wei et al. (2003) did not note Holocene volcanoes in this region.Sources: - Smithsonian / GVP volcano information - Whitford-Stark J L (1987) "A survey of Cenozoic volcanism on mainland Asia", Geol Soc Amer Spec Pap, v. 213, pp. 1-74 - Wei et al (2003) "Three active volcanoes in China and their hazards", J Asian Earth Sci, v. 21, pp. 515-526 |
