The alert level of Yasur has gone up to 3 out of 4, the Vanuatu’s department of geohazards decided early in June, due to increased activity. Access to the crater rim is now forbidden. [lire toutes]

The activity of Yasur has decreased again to normal, but still elevated levels. Bombs are still occasionally falling on the rim and outside, but the frequency and intensity of the explosions is now lower than during late May, when its alert level was raised to 3. Yasur's activity has continued to be very violent, with explosions that often throw bombs onto the visitor's rim and as far as the parking lot. This caused the Department of Geology, Mines and Water Resources from Port Vila to raise the alert level to 3 (out of 4) on 27 May. [lire toutes]

Yasur volcano's activity continues to be dangerously strong. Explosions frequently throw bombs outside the crater onto the rim, the outer flanks and even as far as the ash plane and the parking lot. Since January 2010, the activity of Yasur volcano has been increasing and the activity level has been raised from 1 to 2. Explosions are frequently throwing bombs onto the visitors' path on rim of the crater, making visits to the volcano very dangerous. [lire toutes]

A moderately powerful explosion at Yasur volcano (26 May 2009)
During our expedition on Tanna Island, we observed Yasur during 25-29 May. Activity was a low to moderate levels in that period and only 3 vents in the western crater were active although glow from the eastern crater was seen. Near-continuous spattering was seen from the westernmost vent, and more powerful ejections from the other two vents were observed at intervals of 10-15 minutes, throwing incandescent lava bombs to 100-150 m height.
