Volcanic activity world-wide 29-30 July 2012: pyroclastic flows at Santiaguito, seismic activity at Tongariro, continuing explosions at Batu Tara & Sakurajima, updates for Fuego, Popocatéptel, Nevado del Ruiz, Santorinilundi juil. 30, 2012 18:26 | AUTEUR : T
Batu Tara (Sunda Islands, Indonesia) continues to be active. Ash clouds to about 2 km altitude were obverved yesterday and today on satellite images. In Guatemala, Santiaguito / Santa Maria (Guatemala) volcano has been producing some pyroclastic flows triggered by rock avalanches from the active lava flows yesterday morning. Fuego volcano (Guatemala) produces frequent mild strombolian eruptions with up to 300 m high ash clouds. At least one of the lava flows is still active and about 200 m long in the direction of Taniluya canyon. Nevado del Ruiz (Colombia): A period of increased tremor occurred overnight at Nevado Del Ruiz volcano (station OLLE). The tremor at the volcano has since subsided to low levels. Popocatépetl (Mexico): Eruptive activity remains reduced at Popocatepetl, but the volcano continues to emit a significant amount of SO2, and volcanic tremor and lava glow are visible. In fact, Popo is known to be one of the top-performers of SO2 emission among all known volcanoes. The number of earthquakes at Santorini, Greece has slightly picked up recently. Tongariro (New Zealand): A lot of seismic activity appears on the seismograph visible at Tongariro. There are no new reports by Geonet, and the status remains at yellow (1 out of 4). VAAC Tokyo reports continued explosions at Sakurajima volcano in Japan with ash clouds reaching 2-2.5 km altitude. Actualités précédentes
