Turrialba Volcano (Costa Rica): new eruption on January 12, 2012samedi janv. 14, 2012 10:44 | Il y a: 133 days
AUTEUR : TP The Observatory Simológico Volcano of Costa Rica (OVSICORI-UNA) confirmed that a new ash eruption occurred at Turrialba volcano in the afternoon around 15h20 on 12 Jan. The eruption was first noticed by park rangers and local residents. During the previous day, numerous rumblings could be heard from the mountain. According to OVSICORI-UNA, the eruption started between 3:10 and 3:20 pm and produced an ash plume from a vent on the southeast flank of the main crater in an area known as "La Quemada". The ash reached a height of approx. 500 m above the crater rim, and was transported to the N-NW Direction by prevailing winds at an altitude at around 4 km. L'éruption est maintenue jusqu'à 18:14 le même jour avec une forte émission de cendres et de gaz. De la vallée centrale, les observateurs pouvaient voir 2 panaches : un certain temps, riche en vapeur du cratère qui avaient formé lors de l'éruption phréatique sur 5 janvier 2010 et un panache de riches de cendres sombre actuel éruption à partir du site La Quemada. L'éruption a déclenché la fermeture du Parc National et une alerte « jaune » pour les régions de Turrialba, Jiménez et Alvarado.
