After a seismic crisis that started on July 20 at 02:18 local time, a eruption started at 04:00. A first fissure opened between 23:80 and 22:50 m altitude on the sout-west flank of Piton de la Fournaise. A lava flow went down east of "crater Rivals". At 05:40 a second 50 m long fissure opened at 21:50 m altitude on the south flank between "Rivals" and "Château Fort" producing a 2 km long lava flow untill crater "Jéremine".
