The new Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report was published today and is summarized as follows: -- new activity --- Batu Tara (Sunda Islands, Indonesia):occasional ash eruptions reaching 2.4 km altitude Cleveland (Aleutians): small explosions detected on 4-5 May, old lava dome destroyed, new (5th) lava dome growing Pago (Aleutians): strong ash eruptions, plumes reaching 13.7 km (45,000 ft) a.s.l. Popocatépetl (Mexico): growing lava dome, occasional explosions ejecting fragments up to 500 m distance, ash plumes 1-2.5 km height --- ongoing activity --- Batu Tara (Sunda Islands, Indonesia):occasional ash eruptions reaching 2.4 km altitude Karmysky (Kamchatka): possible small ash eruptions, thermal anomaly at summit crater Kilauea (Hawai'i): active lava lake in Halema'uma'u crater, active lava flows advancing on coastal plain Nevado del Ruiz (Colombia): descreasing seismic activity, alert lowered to yellow Sakurajima (Japan): relatively frequent and unusually strong vulcanian eruptions Soufrière Hills (Montserrat): incandescent spot at lava dome Tungurahua (Ecuador): intermittent explosions and ash venting, ash fall ---
