Fuego (Guatemala): strong strombolian activity, lava flows, lahars, occasional pyroclastic flows
Galeras (Colombia): ash emissions, increased seismicity
Nevado del Ruiz (Colombia): ash and steam venting
Poas (Costa Rica): sporadic phreatic explosions in May

Bagana (Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea): occasional ash eruptions reaching 2-3 km altitude
Batu Tara (Sunda Islands, Indonesia): occasional ash eruptions reaching 2-3 km altitude
Cleveland (Aleutians): steaming, possible weak ash emissions, thermal anomaly
Karmysky (Kamchatka): thermal anomaly visible on satellite data, occasional weak explosions
Kilauea (Hawaii): lava lakes in Pu'u 'O'o and Halema'uma'u crater, lava flows 1.6 km from coast
Popocatépetl (Mexico): ash and steam venting, occasional explosions, crater glow
Rabaul (Papua New Guinea): steaming, occasional volcanic earthquakes
Sakurajima (Japan): strong vulcanian-type explosions, ash plumes up to 3-4 km altitude, occasional small pyroclastic flows
Sangay (Ecuador): ash eruptions on 6 and 10 June
Santiaguito (Guatemala): weak to moderate explosions, blocky lava flows from dome and occasional lahars
Shiveluch (Kamchatka): growing lava dome, occasional strong explosions ejecting ash to 8-9 km altitude
Tungurahua (Ecuador): occasional strong explosions with ash columns up to 3 km, lahars

New discoveries of petrified trees at the area of Agia Paraskevi show that there has been a dense forest 17 Million years ago on the western part of the island of Lesbos. New excavations under the palaeontologist Prof. Nikos Sourou show about 45 species of trees. Some even in the original position with their roots. In future it is planned to include the new items in the geopark of Lesbos island. The fossils are covered by many meters of pyroclastic material of huge volcanic eruptions that took place in the time around 15-23 Million years. Some of the volcanoes that caused this wonder of nature can be found even today after millions of years of erosion (caldera of Agra, Lepetimnos volcano and other lava domes). ... [details]
