Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update activity update: ash-rich strombolian eruptionsFriday Jan 13, 2012 01:01 AM | BY: T
INSIVUMEH reported that on 6 and 10 January weak explosions from Fuego generated ash plumes that rose 300-600 m above the crater and drifted 10 km WNW and 15 km SW, respectively. Rumbling noises were detected several kilometers away. Incandescence emanated from the crater at night and avalanches descended the S, SW, and SE flanks

The Guatemalan geophysical survey SERNAGEOMIN reports increasing explosive activity from Fuego volcano, one of the country's most active volcanoes. Fuego was observed producing ash clouds reaching 1500-2000 m above the summit crater (at ca. 3600 m altitude) which drifted SW and reached up to 20 km distance where they produced some ash fall, reported in the communities of Panimaché, Morelia, Sangre de Cristo, and Santa Sofía. ...

INSIVUMEH reported that during 17-18 and 20-22 March explosions from Fuego produced ash plumes that rose 300-600 m above the crater and drifted 5-8 km W, SW, and S. Incandescent material was ejected as high as 100 m above the crater. Avalanches traveled SW, into the Taniluyá, Santa Teresa, Ceniza, and Trinidad drainages. ...
