Day 1: Arrival in Iceland

Arrival to Iceland, transfer to Reykjavík
Flight to Iceland (Keflavík). Transfer to your hotel in Reykjavík.

Day 2: Reykjavík, Thing square & d Geysir

Meeting with your tour guide. Drive to the highlands with the hydrothermal area of Nesjavellir, around the lake Þingvallavatn and to the Nationalpark & UNESCO heritage of Þingvellir. Walking tour on the ancient "thing square" and through the gorge Almannagjá (3 h). Later we drive over the road of Lyngdalsheiði to the springs at the geysir.

Day 3: Gullfoss & the Highlands route Kjölur

We drive to the famous "golden waterfall" Gullfoss and walk along the canyon (1-2 hour). Then we continue to drive over the highland route Kjölur between the glaciers Langjökull and Hofsjökull. Short walk in the Hveravellir area, where we can take a bath in a warm natural source, before we drive further north until the valley of Skagafjörður. Swimming pool at the guesthouse.

Day 4: Akureyri & Goðafoss waterfall

Walking tour from the farm Bakkaflöt to the monumental waterfall Reykjafoss (2–3 h). Visit of the local museum at the farm Glaumbær and later drive to the capital town of northern Iceland, Akureyri, where we stroll through the lanes and visit the botanological park. Drive to the waterfall of the God´s Goðafoss on the way to our accommodation. 3 nights at the lake Mývatn.

Day 5: Mývatn nature paradise

We take a walk to  the pseudocraters at Skútustaðir (1 hour; great for bird-watching at the lake), and marvel at the bizarre black basalt formations Dimmuborgir (the "black castles"). There is opportunity to take further walks in the area, bath in natural warm springs and relax.

Day 6: Active volcanism at Krafla volcano

Walk in the hydrothermal area Námaskarð with its boiling mud pools and the young lava fields in the caldera of Krafla volcano (2 hours). We will visti also the eruption crater Leirhnúkur. We hike to the bizarre lava sculptures at Dallfjall (3 hours) to the mountain Námafjall. Later visit of a bird museum.

Day 7: Jökulsárgljúfur National Park

We drive to the National Park Jökulsárgljúfur at the north coast, with a break  in the fishing village Húsavík. The scenic road goes along the peninsula Tjörnes. We walk in the impressive ravine of the glacier river Jökulsá á Fjöllum to the so-called "echo rocks" Hljóðaklettar (3 hours), famous for its spectacular basalt column formations in the ravine Ásbyrgi. We hike to Europe's largest waterfall, Dettifoss (1 to 2 hours). Afterwards, we continue to the east along the wasteland Möðrudalsöræfi to Egilsstaðir. Open-air swimming pool in the village.

Day 8: The Eastfjords & Vatnajökull Glacier

We drive to the large, steep Ostfjords via the pass Öxi. Break in the fishing village Höfn where we visit the country and natural history museum with a good collection of minerals. Then we drive along the massive glacier Vatnajökull to the lagoon Jökulsárlón, where you have the opportunity to take a boat tour among the floating icebergs.

Day 9: National Park Skaftafell

At the morning we take a 2 hours adventurous drive to the glacierlagoon Jökulsàrlón. Here we will do a nice walking tour along the lagoon and the sea, watching the drifting icemountains. There you have the opportunity for a sail with a boat between the icemountains. Later you can visit the traditional turfchurch in Hof, before will drive to the nationalpark Skaftafell. There we will walk to the waterfall Svartifoss, that is surrounded by huge basalt columns. Also there is a walk to the sightseeing point of Sjónarsker and Sjónarnípa with an unique view to the highest peak of Iceland, the mountain Öræfajökull. You will also see the glaciertongue of Skaftafellsjökull (3-4 h.). On our way to Kirkjubæjarklaustur we will visit the little chapel at the farm Núpsstaðir.

Day 10: Puffin rocks and a coastal walk to Iceland's south point

Driving through the cooled lava flows from the giant Laki fissure eruption in 1776 (called "Eldhraun") we arrive at the village Vik at the east coast. Here we start our day's hike to the pyroclastic rocks of  Reynisfjall. A great view on the basaltic rocks of Reynisdrangar welcome us. We will see the the southcoast with the bird-rocks Dyrhólaey and the glacier Mýrdalsjökull. The walk ends at the raging surf on the southern coast. On our way to our accommodation we have a stop at the waterfalls of Skógafoss.

Day 11: Nature reserve Þórsmörk Valley

On our drive to Þórsmörk we will have a great sight of the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss, the homeland of the godness Thor. We walk in magnificient glacial scenery of Eyjafjallajökull and in the huge gorge of Stakkholtsgjá (about 4-5 hrs).

Day 12: The Liparite mountains of Landmannalaugar

We tour along Hekla volcano on the wonderful route of Dómadalur until we reach the colorful mountains (consisting of liparit, a special kind of volcanic rock) of Landmannalaugar. Hike (3-4 hrs) through a field of volcanic glas (obsidian) to the sources of Brennisteinsalda. On the way back we will have a stop at a large explosion crater. Then we drive through the valley of Þjórsá, with a stop at the Saga-Farm Stöng (1h).

Day 13: Reykjavík

We drive to the village Selfoss to the old trade town Eyarbakki. Walking tour at the delta of the glacier river Ölfusà. Dirve over the lava pass Þrengslin back to Reykjavík. Visit of the panoramic view point of Perlan with a view towards Reykjavík and the surrounding area. later we will do a round tour through the city of Reykjavík and will visit the nationalmuseum.

Day 14: Free day

Today is a your free disposal. You could join a day-trip to the western peninsula of Snæfellsnes. Another option is a boat-trip to the bay of Breiðafjörður, or you might take the day off to relax in the Blue Lagoon... Another recommended option is a visit of the collection of hand-writings in the cultural museum Þjóðmenningarhús or the National Gallery. Everything is within reach on foot from the hotel. Another spectacular option is a sightseing flight over the lava deserts in the south and Vestmannaeyjar islands (ca. 1,5 h).
