Arrival info:

The tour starts in Jakarta and ends on Bali.
We are unable to include airfare in the package because clients come from a wide range of locations. The best airport to choose is Jakarta, where the tour will start.
It is no problem, if you arrive a few days earlier, in order to have more time to relax and acclimatize. If wanted, a hotel in Jakarta can be arranged, or even an earlier, private transfer to the west coast beach with hotel (where we start our first visit to Krakatoa) at an additional fee can be arranged.
However, a number of alternatives to Jakarta airport are possible, especially Denpasar Airport, provided you are there early afternoon so you can get a single connecting flight to Jakarta for you.

The two-week study and walking tour crosses Java from West to East and ends on Bali. We visit some of the world’s most interesting volcanoes: Krakatoa and Papandayan in West Java, Merapi in Central Java, and the Tengger caldera, Bromo, Semeru and Ijen volcanoes in East Java.
This tour combines easy to moderate excursions with a portion of luxury. You travel to some of Java’s most fascinating landscapes and meet its friendly people and their colorful culture. Last but not least, adventurous camps - one on a tropical beach, one on the slope of an active volcano - as well as Indonesia’s delicious cuisine will round out the trip.

Itinerary (16 days):

Depending on weather, volcanic activity, preferences of the group etc. small variations on the actual itinerary could be necessary.

Day 1:	Arrival & meeting in Jakarta Arrival in Jakarta, transfer to downtown hotel and group dinner. Acc.: good mid-class hotel in Jakarta (D)
Day 2:	Jakarta - West coast Transfer to Carita on W coast, visit of the Krakatoa volcano observatory, preparation of the expedition to Krakatau, swimming/ relaxation on beach. Acc.: Comfortable hotel / bungalows on beach (B, L, D)
Day 3:	Sail to Krakatau volcano Boat trip to Krakatoa, camp on beach on Anak Krakatoa or neighboring island, climb Anak Kraktau (if conditions allowing). Acc.: camp on Krakatau (B, L, D)
Day 4:	2nd day on Krakatau - return to coast Second day on Krakatau for observation / visit of Anak Krakatau. After a snorkeling break at a coral reef near Rakata Island return to West coast. Acc.: hotel or bungalow on West Coast beach
Day 5:	Transfer to Garut in West Java Transfer day: drive through West Java to the small university town Garut in West Java Acc.: good mid-class hotel (B, L, D)
Day 6-7:	Papandayan - Galunggung - Cipanas hot springs Two full days in the beautiful volcanic area to explore hot springs & volcanic craters (Papandayan and/or Galunggung volcano). Acc.: as before (Garut)
Day 8:	Scenic train ride to Yogyakarta Acc.: very good mid-class hotel in downtown Yogya(B, L)
Day 9:	Free day in Yogya Opportunity to explore downtown Yogya (Sultan's Palace, water castle, museums, markets etc.). Optional fun city-tour on becak (rickshaws). Option to attend a Ramayana ballet performance in the evening. Acc.: as before (Yogya) (B)
Day 10:	Borobodur temple and Merapi volcano Acc.: as before (Yogya) (B, L, D)
Day 11:	Fly or train ride to East Java, Tengger volcano Short and scenic flight (alternatively train) to Surabaya, transfer to Malang town, lunch. Enter into the Tengger caldera via an impressive route on open jeeps to enjoy the dramatic landscape of deep valleys and steep cliffs. Acc.: hotel or bungalows on the rim of the Tengger caldera overlooking Bromo volcano (B, L, D)
Day 12:	Bromo volcano Relaxed day to explore Bromo volcano and the Tengger caldera Acc.: as before (Bromo) (B, D)
Day 13:	Sunrise excursion to overview of Bromo - rainforest of the National Park - observation of Semeru volcano Sunrise from the famous viewpoint overlooking the Bromo-Tengger caldera. Jeep ride to Semeru's south side and observation camp (Semeru volcano). Acc.: camp near Semeru volcano (B, L, D)
Day 14:	Transfer to Ijen volcano Transfer to Ijen Plateau, coffee plantations, hot bath in nearby natural hot volcanic springs. Acc.: guesthouse at coffee plantation near Ijen (B, L, D)
Day 15:	Kawah Ijen volcano - transfer to Bali Climb and visit of Ijen's crater, descend to the sulphur mining area and the turquoise acid crater lake. In the afternoon transfer to Bali. Acc.: Excellent beach hotel on Bali (B, L, D)
Day 16:	End of tour or extension program on Bali Acc.: none (B)

19-days itinerary including Semeru trekking

Day 1-11:	Same as in normal itinerary
Day 12:	First etappe on the trek to Semeru Acc.: Camping (B, L, D)
Day 13:	Climb to Semeru's summit Strenous climb up the steep cone of Semeru for sunrise, descend and hike to second camp at a lake. Acc.: Camping (B, L, D)
Day 14:	Hike back to Ranu Pani and 4WD transfer to Bromo Acc.: Comfortable hotel bungalows at the rim of the Bromo-Tengger caldera (B, L)
Day 15-19:	Same as days 12-16 in normal itinerary above (Bromo - Ijen - Bali)
