Karangetang volcano (Siau Island, Indonesia): new eruption, lava flow reaches settlements

A new eruption started at Mount Karangetang volcano (Siau volcano, Sangihe Islands, Indonesia) on 9 Sep. According to newspaper articles, at least 2 lava flows (and possibly pyroclastic flows) has come to within close distance of settlements, where residents have fled.
The spokesman of the local volcano observatory describes that lava had flown through the Kali Kahetang valley to Bolo Kelurahan Tarorane village and through the Batuawang valley to the Kola-Kola Kelurahan Bebali Kecamatan Siau Timru village (?). According to the news, the residents in this area have been evacuated to safer locations.

The activity of Karangetang volcano is increasing. The Indonesian Volcanological Survey has raised the highest level of alert (4), after pyroclastic flows (block and ash flow type) from the new growing lava dome on the summit into the Kali Kali Nanitu und Pangi valleys have have reached nearly 4 km distance from the crater on 18 March. 3 villages have been ordered to evacuate.
