It is named after the small town of La Gloria to the SE and also known as Desconocido-Tecomales volcanic field. La Gloria volcanic field belongs to the Citlaltépetl–Cofre de Perote Volcanic Range, which forms a 70 kmlong chain of volcanoes. It contains numerous young-looking cinder cones and 2 prominent arcuate east-facing scarps. The age of the latest volcanic activity is unknown, but thought to be Holocene at some of the cones.
