 Seismic signal this morning (CIMA station) Some of the quakes during these swarms were felt by inhabitants of villages near the volcano. The epicenters of the quakes were clustered at 2-4 km depth W and S of the summit dome, and the largest was the M3.6 event on 9 Sep.

At 07:32 local time 9 Sep, a 3.6 magnitude quake occurred at 3.2 km depth beneath the summit of the volcano. Seismicity had been elevated since 8 Sep and stronger than normal seismic activity has been following the quake today. This is the most energetic seismic activity at the volcano for probably more than a year.

No significant changes have been occurring. Weak seismic unrest continues at Cerro Machín with some small volcanic quakes clustered at depths between 3-6 km south and southwest under the main summit. The largest event was a magnitude 0.55 on 22 August at 08:27 local time.
