Elevated seismic activity continues with 82 events registered over the past 7 days, out of which 45 shallow volcanic quakes up to magnitude 1.3 and frequent tremor pulses of weak energy. Visual observations reveal strong degassing generating a plume rising less than 1 km.

At 07:32 local time 9 Sep, a 3.6 magnitude quake occurred at 3.2 km depth beneath the summit of the volcano. Seismicity had been elevated since 8 Sep and stronger than normal seismic activity has been following the quake today. This is the most energetic seismic activity at the volcano for probably more than a year.

No significant changes have been occurring. Weak seismic unrest continues at Cerro Machín with some small volcanic quakes clustered at depths between 3-6 km south and southwest under the main summit. The largest event was a magnitude 0.55 on 22 August at 08:27 local time.
