The seismic signals from Nevado del Ruiz indicate tremor, associated with gas and minor ash emissions at low level. Additionally, there are earthquakes indicating rock fracturing, possibly caused by magma movements within the volcanic edifice north of Arenas crater. The most significant event was at 3:11 (local time) and had a magnitude of 1.2 ML located on the east and less than 1 km from the Arenas crater.

At 20:02 (Local time) on 30 July, the Manizales oservatory observed a seismic signal probably reflecting an ash eruption from Nevado del Ruiz. The signal was similar to those recorded on 10 and 19 April and 22 May 2012 when ash eruptions occurred. Seismic activity at Nevado del Ruiz is elevated and the volcano is producing an important SO2 plume.

A period of increased tremor occurred overnight at Nevado Del Ruiz volcano (station OLLE). The tremor at the volcano has since subsided to low levels.
