During 1-15 January, eruptive activity at Langila's Crater 2 consisted of continuous emissions of gray ash plumes that rose to altitudes of 2.3-3.3 km (7,600-10,800 ft) a.s.l. and drifted predominantly N and NE. Fine ash fell on the flanks. Occasional roaring noises were heard accompanying emissions. Incandescence was observed at the summit.

During 10-16 January, lava from Kilauea continued to flow from lava deltas into the ocean at the East Lae'apuki, Kamokuna, and East Ka'ili'ili entries. Incandescence was intermittently visible on the pali and from the  East Pond and January vents, South Wall complex, and Drainhole vent in  Pu'u 'O'o's crater. On 12 January, the summit tilt network recorded the start of the tenth deflation-inflation (DI) event; after 7 microradians of deflation, inflation began on 13 January. Tremor near Pu’u ‘O’o increased and decreased in response to the DI event.

Activity at Karymsky continued during 5-12 January, with 100-350 shallow earthquakes occurring daily. Ash plumes may have reached altitudes of 2.5  km (8,200 ft) a.s.l. during 7-8 January. The Level of Concern Color Code  remained at Orange

The Darwin VAAC reported that a diffuse plume from Dukono was visible on satellite imagery on 16 January and drifted SSE.

The lava dome at Mount St. Helens continues to grow slowly, accompanied by low-level seismicity.

INSIVUMEH reported that explosions from Fuego produced white and gray plumes that rose to an altitude of 4 km (13,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted SW on 12 January. Incandescent material was propelled up to 75 m above the summit and incandescent blocks rolled W towards the Taniluyá and Santa Teresa ravines on 12 January and S towards the Ceniza ravine on 12 and 16 January. Based on information from the Tegucigalpa MWO and satellite imagery, the Washington VAAC reported that a faint plume was seen on 12 January drifting W.

Over the past days, lava-dome growth at Soufrière Hills continued and was focused on the NW sector of the dome. Occasional pyroclastic flows travelled down to the W in Gages Valley, to the NW in Tyres Ghaut and S down the Tar River Valley.

Sangay volcano remains in activity as satellite observations by the VAAC Washington reveal, warning about ash plumes of 800 m above the volcano. A thermal anomaly is also visible in the crater.

Karymski stratovolcano continues to be very active. Frequent explosions produce ash plumes of 2-3 km height, probably accompanied by pyroclastic flows. Explosion-type earthquakes range from 100-350 events per day. Direct visual observations are difficult or impossible due to bad weather.

A new eruption started at Karthala volcano (the 4th within two years). Details of the eruption are still scarse, but observations from the capital Moroni (15 km distant) suggest that the activity might not take place in the Chungu Chahale crater, where the other recent eruptions were located, but north of it or perhaps even outside the caldera.
Residents of Moroni report seing "jets of red flames above the summit of Karthala" in the night of 12-13 January. On 13 January, eruptive tremor was low but a number of earthquakes could be felt in Moroni and an ash plume was observed above the volcano.

Telica stratovolcano had a weak phreatic eruption on 9 January starting at around 15h00 local time, following seismic precursors starting from around 07h00. Explosions from the central crater ejected gas and ash to 500 m elevation.

As our correspondand Roy reports, a major explosion (probably a major dome collapse) has just occured on Montserrat's volcano, producing an eruption column of 30,000 ft (10 km).

Soufrière Hills volcano continues to be in a high eruption state. Frequent rock falls trigger pyroclastic flows from the lava dome towards the NW sector Tyres Ghaut and Gages Valley. The run out distances in Tyres Ghaut have, however, shown signs of increasing, possibly exceeding the previous maximum estimate of 1500 m.

Based on pilot reports, the Buenos Aires VAAC reported continuous emissions from Ubinas on 27 and 30 December. Ash plumes rose to 4.9-8.5 km (16,000-28,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted E.

Santa Maria volcano is in a heightened state of activity. On 28 Dec. 2006, INSIVUMEH reported a series of small sector collapses from the SW edge of Santa María's Caliente dome that produced pyroclastic flows travelling ca. 2 km down a ravine.
On 29 December, another collapse produced pyroclastic flows and incandescent blocks. Thick ash plumes associated with the pyroclastic flows on both days reached an altitude of 4.3 km (14,000 ft) a.s.l. and drifted W and NW.
Washington VAAC reported minor emissions of gas and possible ash visible on satellite imagery on 1 and 2 January.

After its violent eruption on 24 December, on aerial observations reported by KVERT show that part of Bezymianny’s lava dome was destroyed during that activity. The level of Concern Color Code was lowered to Yellow.

Since the end of the lava emission on 15 December 2006, Etna continues to be rather quiet. INGV reports the presence of ash emitted from SE crater during the night of 25-26 December.

Over the past weeks, the lava dome of Montserrat's has been growing at rapid pace. The possibility of major dome collapse events (such as on May, 20, 2006) and associated pyroclastic flows promted the government to evacuate hundreds of people living at the base of the Belham Valley. One of the longest eruptions of Piton de la Fournaise during the past decades ended after 4 months on January 1st 2007.
