A new eruption started on Piton de la Fournaise volcano at 18h30 local time on 14 December. At 1:58 AM on 11 Nov, an ash explosion occurred at the summit crater of Mayon Volcano. The event was not well observed as the summit was in clouds, but recorded on seismographs and iincandescent rock fragments were seen at the upper slope of the steep stratovolcano. Ashfall drifted towards the Southwest quadrant of the volcano due to the prevailing Northeast monsoon. [read all]

It seems that the activity reported from 6 November was not strombolian activity but rather the formation of a new collapse pit on the E flank of SE crater, explosing hot gasses and rocks that produced the glow visible on the webcams. Bad weather conditions have hampered inspections on site, but eruptive tremor is absent. However, Etna volcano could erupt any time as measurements indicate that the magma level inside the conduits is high. [read all]

The Tokyo VAAC reported an explosion from Suwanose-jima on 10 August. [read all]
It wasreported that on 8 August an ash plume from Slamet rose 90 m above the summit. [read all]

Sarychev volcano erupted violently starting 11 June 2009 until mid-end of June, producing a series of sub-plinian eruptions sending large gas and ash plumes to 10-14 km elevation, which drifted westward across the northern hemisphere.
