The contrast between unspoiled rain forest, coconut palm beaches, primitive culture and moon-like landscapes surrounding lava-spitting volcanoes could not be bigger: join us on an expedition to the two most active volcanoes of Vanuatu: Ambrym and Yasur. A great mix of adventure, breathtaking landscapes, unspoiled tropical beaches, meeting friendly people and their exotic culture awaits you.
About this tour:In the focus of this expedition are the two most active volcanoes of Vanuatu, and encounters with the exotic culture. We stay 4 days inside the Ambrym caldera with its two frequently active lava lakes of Bembo and Marum, with the option to descend inside the active crater Bembo (if conditions permit). After Ambrym, we spend 4 days on Tanna island near the permanently active Yasur volcano - the Stromboli equivalent of the Pacific.

Day 1:
Arrival on Vanuatu (Port Vila, Efate Island)
Arrival at the Airport of Port Vila & transfer to Port Vila town. Acc.: : good hotel in Port Vila (D)
Day 2:
Flight from Port Vila to Craig Cove on Ambrym Island
Flight from Port Vila to Craig Cove on Ambrym Island, lunch, intorduction to our guide Francis & his family. Free afternoon. Acc.: : camping near the village and beach among palm trees (B, L, D)
Day 3:
Ascent to the caldera, Bembow volcano with its lava lake.
Ascent to the Ambrym caldera Acc.: : expedition camp in the Ambrym caldera (B, L, D)
Day 4:
Hike to Marum crater and its lava lakes
Hike to Marum (2 hours hike from the Base camp) and observe its usually active lava lakes in the evening / night. Acc.: : as before (expedition camp in Ambrym's base camp) (B, L, D)
Day 5:
Hike to Bembow crater - possibility to abseil into the crater
Hike to Bembow crater (ca. 1.5 hr) and abseiling into the crater (optional, conditions permitting) Acc.: : as before (expedition camp in Ambrym's base camp) (B, L, D)
Day 6:
Second opportunity for Marum or Bembow - descend to the coast
The morning could be used for a second opportunity to look at Marum or Bembow craters. After breaking camp, we descend to the village of Lalinda to meet the hospital and friendly people of Ambrym. Acc.: : camping near the sea (B, L, D)
Day 7-8:
2 spare days on Ambrym
Depending on conditions and preferences, these 2 days could be used for additional excursions in the caldera or in one of the villages of Ambrym. Acc.: : camp (B, L, D)
Day 9:
Flight back to Port Vila
In the morning, we take the flight back to Port Vila. The rest of the day is free and useful as a spare day for organisatorial aspects. For those who only take part in the Ambrym expedition, today is already the last day of the tour In the evening, we meet for a dinner in a nice waterfront restaurant. Day 10:
Flight to Tanna - Transfer to Yasur volcano
In the morning, we fly to Tanna island. A 4WD pick-up brings us accross the island to a simple, but charming guesthouse directly at the feet of Mt. Yasur volcano. After lunch, we drive and hike to Yasur volcano to enjoy its spectacular volcanic activity from close, as long as we wish... Acc.: : guesthouse on Tanna (B, L, D)
Day 11:
Relaxing day at the jungle oasis & the Yasur volcano
Day to relax in the beautiful rainforest and ascent of Yasur volcano in the afternoon. Acc.: : as before (Jungle Oasis) (B, D)
Day 12:
Hike to the village of John Frum & local village celebration
Hike to the village of John Frum and swim at the hot volcano springs, traditional celebration of the village people. (Note: this will be done on a Friday) Acc.: : as before (Jungle Oasis) (B, L, D)
Day 13:
Flight Tanna - Port Vila, free afternoon
Flight Tanna - Port Vila. Transfer to the hotel, free lunch & afternoon. Farewell dinner at the seafront. Acc.: : hotel in Port Vila (B, D)

End of tour
Transfer to airport or own extension. Acc.: : none (B)
