The first pilot group trip to Lesvos led the guests to geological highlights of the island of Lesbos. Also, if Lesbos is not known as a volcanic area, so there are clear traces of volcanic activity in the northwest of the island. The most famous example is the Petrified Forest of Sigri. There volcanic eruptions about 20 million years ago have preserved forests by covering with silicon-rich ash permanently. One of the best preserved fossil forests in the world. The remnants of volcanoes that have preserved this forest can be seen in some places very well. The hot springs of Eftalou Polihnitos and are a sign that it is below the island of Lesbos still active magma chambers. In Polihnitos we visited nearly 90 degrees C hot springs, and could even see how it dead animal be permanently preserved by minerals over time. If successful, the unexpected discovery Eftalou very beautiful quartz crystals. ... [more]
