Since January, no plumes, changes or seismic activity were observed around the Tambora caldera. On 9 April the Alert Level was lowered to 1 (on a scale of 1-4).

A swarm of earthquakes has occurred near Tambora volcano on 16 and 17 February. About 12 quakes larger than magnitude 2 were recorded at depths between 10 and 40 km, concentrated in an area near the coast about 30 km NE of the volcano. Tambora volcano in Indonesia is beginning to show signs of life. Since April this year, there have been intermittent swarms of small earthquakes, which repeated themselves towards the end of August. Activity have slowly increased, steam clouds have been observed rising up to the rim of the caldera and the earthquake activity has picked up a bit, too. The alarm level have been raised to 2.
