WITNESS beauty & destruction on the east slope of Kīlauea between two lava-buried villages! This scenic coastline offers a unique mix of black sand beaches, rainforest, tidepools, and warm ponds between historic lava flows, with red lava sometimes visible from a distance at sunset. Longer tours include more oceanside stops and our full presentations on the Kapoho (1960) and Pu'u 'O'o (1983-now) eruptions, incl. Kalapana (1990 & 2010).

Sample itinerary

Day 1: Hawai'i's Puna Coast
Short orientation walks on recent Kīlauea lava flows set the stage for personal exploration, with your guide accompanying YOU wherever you choose to go (legally) for the rest of the tour, using natural events as guidance.

Arrival info:

The tour starts and ends on Big Island, ideally in Hilo or Volcano. Pick-up and transfers to and from Kona can be arranged, but the guided transfer time counts towards the time of the tour.
