Small explosive activity persists at Tunguarahua volcano.
On 24 July, there were 3 small eruptions. An explosion at 23:50 (local time) on 23 July produced a gunshot-like noise heard in Palitahua. The rumbling sound of blocks tumbling down the slope on the flanks could be heard this morning from the Tungurahua Observatory (OVT), located 14 km north of the volcano after another burst at 06:53 (local time). Near the volcano, the shock wave from the same rattled windows. People in Cusúa Pillate reported window and ground shaking and the noise of rooling blocks. The eruption generated an approx. 1 km tall column with moderate to high ash content drifting westward. Light ash fall was observed in the Chontapamba area.
